Self-esteem can serve as a protective shield.
People with high self-esteem are happier than other people. Additionally, they are more likely to be less depressed, and they are better able to navigate life situations that are stressful or traumatic. For example, in the face of failure, people with high self-esteem are more persistent and are better able to change course when it’s necessary to find an alternative solution.

Examples of healthy self-esteem:

Is your self-esteem too high, too low, or just right?
It’s great to have high self-esteem, but not when it’s too high. People with low self-esteem or fragile high self-esteem struggle with insecurity and self-doubt. When self-esteem is threatened, the need to self-promote and act defensively is heightened. For example, people with low or fragile high self-esteem may provide excuses for past wrongdoings or point the finger at others. When self-esteem is secure, or just right, psychological benefits are expanded.
